Program Details
Welcome to the Part-time Teacher Training at ILI
What is the part-time TESOL teacher training course? Spread out over 3 months, the online program delivers the same curriculum as the intensive program, qualifying you to teach ESOL anywhere in the world.
Doing a deep dive into the key concepts of language instruction and acquisition, you gain the practical skills and confidence to succeed as an ESOL instructor. Your SIT-certified teacher trainer guides you through a comprehensive set of modules: learning, teaching, speaking, pronunciation, grammar, listening, reading, writing, and culture. Just like the in-person intensive TESOL course, the part-time teacher training includes 6 hours of practice teaching, preceding by group planning and followed by reflection.
Using the Zoom platform, the course meets one Saturday a month and on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for three months. Participants will need reliable internet connection, a camera and working audio on their computer, laptop, Chromebook, or tablet to participate.Since the part-time TESOL program is the same as the one-month, intensive 130-hour course, graduates receive the same valid internationally recognized TESOL Certificate. You may also choose to pursue graduate credit, but need to decide before the course begins.

Graduate Credit
Five Graduate Credits are available through the World Learning SIT TESOL Certificate.
You have the choice of whether or not to pursue graduate credit, but need to decide before the course begins. Regulations state that once the course has begun there is no reconsideration on the part of the World Learning SIT Graduate Institute Registrar’s Office. If you wish to pursue graduate credit you will be given a link by the Training Center at which you have enrolled in the course, and will register for credit on an online World Learning SIT registration site.
Choosing the credit option means that you will pay an additional $500 fee directly to World Learning SIT, and upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded five graduate credits. Ordinary payment method is by check, but as a convenience, SIT offers the choice of credit card online payments by Master Card, Visa, or Discover with a flat convenience fee of $50 per transaction for payment of the registration fee.
In submitting the graduate credit application you indicate that you have chosen to take the course for graduate credit, and that you understand that if you change your mind or fail to complete the course credit requirements the cost of credit will not be refunded.

Online part-time TESOL training classes with ILI
The class meets live on Zoom. The content and curriculum are the same as the intensive TESOL course. Whether you complete the TESOL course online, in-person, part-time, or intensively, you earn a valid TESOL Certificate.
Not everybody has the time and mental bandwidth to devote 130 hours over 4 weeks in a classroom or at computer to do the intensive TESOL teacher training. Our part-time extensive option accommodates a busy schedule, spreading out the curriculum over the course of three months.
Northampton, Massachusetts is in the Eastern Time Zone (ET) and observes daylight saving time (DST). You can join our online TESOL Certificate course from anywhere in the world, so long as you’re comfortable with the regular times the classes run. You can check out the compatibility of your time zone here.
Technology Requirements for the Online TESOL Course
Applicants to the online TESOL Certificate Course should be comfortable using basic Zoom functions. Participants will actively engage in the online classroom using features such as breakout rooms, chat, and screen sharing. Because trainees will also practice teaching lessons online, they should be able to create and manage breakout rooms and share materials on screen. Basic familiarity with these tools will help ensure a smooth and productive learning experience.
If you’re not sure which option is best for you, please contact us and we can discuss this with you.

There is a minimum of 4 participants required for ILI to run the SIT TESOL Certificate course. However, ILI may offer the ILI TESOL Certificate for 3 or fewer participants. This course is very similar to the SIT course in that student-centered teaching is also the focus. The same trainers provide both courses.
With fewer participants, the ILI course offers even more individual attention and more practice teaching hours. In the ILI course, participants also examine existing methodologies and investigate integrated activities while looking at the components of a lesson. Like the SIT course, the ILI course covers the cornerstones of language teaching: Eliciting, materials, error correction, feedback and evaluation, as well as grammar (how, when and why we teach it), pronunciation, intonation, speaking styles, and understanding and recycling vocabulary. Both courses address learning styles and provide suggestions for multi-level classrooms.
Students must have a high school degree and show a capacity for college-level education including a good understanding of the English language and solid writing skills.

Non-native speakers must also have a second interview to ensure their listening/speaking skills are adequate to take the course and to teach English. All participants must show a willingness to plan and teach in groups and to work reflectively.
