What can skilled seamstresses accomplish when they set their minds to it? Making Im2Masks (Immigrant Mask Makers of Western Mass) to help meet the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and give back to their local communities and beyond.
Former and current students in ILI’s free English classes are doing just that and have joined the Im2Masks project, the brainchild of two ILI staff members: Amy Ben-Ezra and Allie Aguirre. This small business produces facial coverings, so important in stopping the spread of the virus. And directions for proper use and cleaning of the coverings are available in 15 different languages!
The project operates on nonprofit principles, aiming to keep prices affordable and ensuring that all proceeds from sales go to pay fair wages to the workers. Learn more about this project and how you can help at masksandjobs2020@gmail.com
