Circle Friday, February 23 on your calendar and join us from 5:30-7:00 pm to celebrate the publication of Rebecca Lorimer Leonard’s new book, Writing on the Move: Migrant Women and the Value of Literacy. The author will be on hand to sign books and enjoy light refreshments with you.
Rebecca, an English department professor at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, based the book on a qualitative study of migrant female writers in the United States who hail from 17 different countries. She chronicles their daily struggles and their successes working under contemporary conditions and details how their multi-lingual literacies shift in value as they migrate among languages and around the world.
Rebecca is generously donating proceeds from the book to support ILI’s free English program for immigrants and refugees and to the book’s cover artist, Nora Valdez.
